Run to the Coast!

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Anyone who reads this blog knows that we like to go fast. From the SpeedLiner to our project cars and the GoodGuys autocross series, everything we do revolves around speed. In fact, stay tuned for an announcement coming very soon about a new development regarding Spectre and some of the hottest driving events in the country.

In the meantime, the pro-touring community has been raving about an event back east called Run Through the Hills in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, hosted by Bill Howell. A hardcore Mopar pro-touring fan, Bill is bringing his driving event to the Left Coast with a new event, the Run to the Coast. Scheduled for April 2-4 at the old air base in El Toro, California and we’re a sponsor!

This will be a fun but hardcore driving event – Bill is encouraging Pro Tourers to drive cross-country to get there, and then to compete in head-to-head competition on the asphalt. Here’s how it breaks down: we will have a kart race at Dromo 1 in Orange County on Friday, then driving competition all day Saturday and a cruise to Spectre HQ on Sunday. The Saturday event includes an extended autocross as well as 0-60-0. Sunday the cruise route will go over some of the most scenic roads in So Cal, and end up at our facility for a very casual BBQ and car show.

Also, Optima has stated that the winner of Run to the Coast will be invited to participate in the next Ultimate Street Car Invitational. The winner is named King of the Coast, and can only be a 1980-or-older car.

The event is basically full for competitors, but everyone is welcome to show up, watch, volunteer, take pictures and have a great time. You can get more info and read all the threads here on Pro-Touring.com.

The new Speed by Spectre Big Rig

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Nearly a year in the making, our new rig is just about ready for the car show circuit. As you can see by the pictures below, we still have to finish the interior, which will include mobile marketing displays for all our intakes below, and storage for at least two of our Speed by Spectre project vehicles up above. We can fit a third car in the bottom when necessary. By the time you read this the truck will already have made its maiden voyage to Indy for the Hot Rod Restoration Trade Show, and it will then come back to the shop for some more upgrades and finishing touches before hitting the road for the rest of the season. Look for the big black Volvo hauler at a show near you and come by to say hi!

GoodGuys 1st Annual Spring Nats

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Overall, the first annual GoodGuys Spring Nats in Scottsdale was fantastic, the attendance was high and the weather was great. Goodguys unveiled their Boss Snake 2010 giveaway car on Saturday (pic included) and autocross brought a huge group of viewers, especially on Saturday. Our fastest time in the Mach 1 was 36.388 compared to Ryan and Kyle from Detroit Speed in the DSE Camaros, who were both in the low 32’s. Brett Voelkel from Ride Tech maintained 33-34 second lap times all day, while Stacy Tucker from DSE ran 33 second laps in her car. Guy and Brandy from Spectre both drove our Mach 1 Mustang, and by the end of the weekend Brandy (who is getting a rep in the GG Autocross world as a force to be reckoned with) consistently pushed the Ford into the high 30s. We had a fantastic time, the show attendees were all enthusiastic with great cars, and we can’t wait for the next show!

Scottsdale 2010 – The 1st Show of the Year!

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

This is the first year GoodGuys broke in the new car show season with an event in Scottsdale, where they normally wind things down in fall. The show was spectacular with great cars and even better weather. A side bonus was the cruise-in car show at the local McDonalds on Saturday night. Most of the cars from Goodguys drove their cars to sit in the McDonald’s Parking Lot along with various other make/model of vehicles. They only get a turn out this big twice a year – for GoodGuys and Barrett Jackson. Location was in Scottsdale, AZ. Hopefully we can take some of our cars to this event next year!
