Brandy Morrow-Phillips grew up around cars joining her father, who works in the automotive aftermarket industry, at SCCA and NASA events. Brandy began competing and attending driving schools after getting her license. In 2008 Brandy was given the chance to compete in several Spectre Performance vehicles as part of a marketing program for the company. Her diligence paid off in 2011 when she won her first Goodguys Autocross event at the 2011 Goodguys Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. However, in 2012 Brandy hung up her driver’s suit in favor of maternity clothes as she and her husband started a family.
The Goodguys 6th Spring Nationals presented by Brown’s Classic Autos in Scottsdale, Arizona was Brandy’s first time competing in a Goodguys Autocross event in three years. Not only that, but Brandy had flown into Scottsdale, Arizona for the Friday morning portion of the event from Jasper, Indiana. Brandy had been on site for the 48-hour Corvette build at the RideTech corporate headquarters as a representative for Spectre Performance. By the end of Friday’s events Brandy had been awake for nearly 24 hours straight.

Come Saturday morning Brandy had gotten some much needed rest and she began to push the PCH Rods built Chevy C10-R faster with each lap of the Goodguys Scottsdale Autocross course. Brandy’s husband Rob Phillips took his experience racing his 1969 Chevy C10 show truck into consideration when building Brandy’s C-10R. His ideas culminated into a Chevy C10 with a heavily modified custom suspension set up. As Brandy’s driving improved over the course of the day Rob’s hard work and innovation was beginning to pay dividends. Brandy’s best lap was 68.9 seconds, with a 1 second penalty added for knocking over a cone, and her final winning time was 69.901 seconds. She was technically 5 seconds faster than her closest competitor in the truck class.
With this win Brandy is able to move into the Goodguys Autocross Pro Class. Brandy’s winning run in the Truck class was nearly 5 seconds slower than the winning Pro Class driver Kyle Tucker. This means she’ll have her work cut out for her to once again gain the top spot on the podium. However, Brandy certainly took consolation in the fact that her winning lap was faster than two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr’s best lap in the Pro Class. While winning and moving on to the Pro Class was part of Brandy’s to-do-list this season, she has also taken it upon herself to help promote the sport of Autocross. Brandy spent the entire weekend giving spectators, and fellow racers, rides in the PCH Rods C10-R. In fact the list was so long that she didn’t have enough track time to take out everyone who signed up. Brandy has also made it a goal to get kids involved in racing. Between runs, kids can sit in the PCH Rods C10-R driver’s seat, take pictures with the truck, and get a hero card personally autographed by Brandy herself.
