It is a proven fact that cooler air has more mass and that getting cooler air into an engine can be critical for performance. Because of this fact many classic muscle car owners are moving away from the traditional 14” round air cleaner assembly in favor of a cold air intake system. While a 14” round air cleaner assembly is very efficient at flowing air, it is centered right behind a car’s radiator and directly on top of the engine which means that a 14” air cleaner will feed the engine all the hot air it can use. Another reason that owners of classic Chevrolet muscle cars are switching to a cold air intake system is because of the increasingly popular LS engine swap. These modern fuel injected engines do not allow for the use of a traditional air cleaner, and necessitate some kind of custom air intake system to be created.

Spectre Performance muscle car heat shield kits are constructed from lightweight 5052 aluminum and finished with a durable silver powder coating. They are designed to accommodate air intake tubes up to 4” in outer diameter and include edge trim to help seal the filter off from engine heat.
