Brandy Phillips is used to racing her second generation Chevy Camaro and racing the PCH Rods 1972 Chevrolet C-10R pickup truck promises to be a whole new driving experience

In a previous news release Spectre Performance announced that a 1972 Chevy C10 pickup, transformed into the C-10R, would debut at the 2014 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, Nevada and be on display in the Spectre Performance SEMA Show booth. At that time the PCH Rods Chevy C-10R was in the early stages of assembly. With less than two weeks before its scheduled debut, the C-10R is around 95% complete and ready for some testing.

Rob and Brandy Phillips took their 1972 Chevy C10 to Adams Motorsports Park in Riverside, CA for a quick shake down of a truck that hadn’t been driven prior to the test session. Brandy Phillips hopes to drive the C-10R at the 2014 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and showed obvious signs of being nervous as Rob buckled himself into the driver’s seat. Rob Phillips took his experience racing his 1969 Chevy C10 show truck into consideration when building the C-10R. His ideas culminated into a Chevy C10 with a heavily modified, and at the same time unproven, suspension set up.

The Phillips’ chose to experiment with new products on their Chevy C-10R, including a Detroit Speed and Engineering front suspension, and a custom rear suspension of Rob’s own design

With the push of a button the Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine roared to life and Rob finally drove the truck he’d spent the last two years working on. After a few low speed laps of the ¾-mile track, Rob pulled into the pits and told Brandy it was her turn to drive. Rob didn’t get the truck up to speed as he was trying to bed-in the new brakes, but he came out of that first session pleased with what he built. While the 1972 C-10R was an obvious improvement over Rob’s 1969 C10, the real test would be with Brandy behind the wheel. Brandy is used to racing her second generation Chevy Camaro and the C-10R promised to be a whole new driving experience.

The test session at Adams Motorsports Park gave the Phillips’ some insight as to how the suspension performs before the OUSCI event, and at the same time relieved any doubts they had

The test session at Adams Motorsports Park gave the Phillips’ some insight as to how the suspension performs before the OUSCI event, and at the same time relieved any doubts they had

At first Brandy was hesitant, but with each lap her confidence grew and she began to explore the truck’s limits. As she pushed the truck harder it was obvious to both Rob and Brandy that the front suspension needed some adjustments. Another quick pit stop, a few tweaks to the front coil over shocks, and Brandy was on the track once more. This time she began to push the truck to see what it was capable of. When Brandy pulled off the track a second time, she had a huge smile on her face. “This truck makes Rob’s C10 feel like a piece of crap!” exclaimed Brandy as she unbuckled her 5-point safety harness

The test session gave the Phillips’ some insight as to how they should adjust the suspension before the OUSCI event, and at the same time relieved any doubts they had about the truck. Rob and Brandy will continue toward completion of the truck as the 2014 SEMA Show will take place at the beginning of November. Be sure to stop by the Spectre Performance SEMA Show booth, number 22961, to see just how unique the C-10R is up close.

Hearing the words Super Sport, or SS for short, will either put a smile on a Chevy guy’s face, or make Ford and Mopar fans scowl. Like it or not, the Super Sport package is a highly-regarded performance parts group, including visual upgrades, worn on many Chevy cars and trucks through the years. The first Chevy car to be adorned with the Super Sport logo was the 1961 Chevrolet Impala. It seems fitting that when the Chevy Impala was reintroduced in 1994 that it should also wear the SS badge.

The third generation Chevy Impala was the first to be equipped with the Super Sport package and the 1964 Chevy Impala SS is perhaps the most sought after among collectors

The 1994, 1995, and 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS was equipped with a 5.7L LT1 V8 engine derived from the Corvette. The seventh generation Impala SS had sport tuned suspension, larger disc brakes, and dual exhaust normally only found in the Caprice 9C1 police package. The 5.7L Chevy small block engine and other mechanical upgrades had previously only been available in the B-Body platform, such as the Chevy Caprice, to law enforcement and government agencies.

Spectre Performance has created a late model air intake system for 1994 to 1996 Chevy Impala SS and Caprice models equipped with a 5.7L V8 engine. This late model air intake is fitted with a Spectre High Performance Racing (HPR) universal cone air filter HPR9891. The HPR synthetic air filter used in this Spectre Performance intake is designed for high airflow without sacrificing engine protection. A Spectre HPR performance air filter is manufactured using high quality materials throughout, including a pre-dyed synthetic filter media that will not fade, top quality urethane, and steel mesh. Spectre High Performance Racing air filters are pre-oiled and ready to use. A Spectre HPR reusable air filter can be serviced when dirty, using the Spectre Accucharge Air Filter Cleaning Kit, and used again.
